Cordell Spears, MEd, ALC, NCC
Hello, I'm Cordell
I am an Associate License Counselor and a National Certified Counselor. I am under the supervision of Dr. LaTonya Melton, LPC-S.
Cordell's Story
Cordell works with individuals and groups of all ages, employing a client-centered and culturally responsive approach. Drawing on evidence-based modalities, he specializes in helping individuals redefine their roles and purpose in changing seasons of life. Cordell also works with individuals processing the impact of early life experiences and their lingering effects on adult relationships and well-being. He is deeply committed to supporting marginalized communities, including individuals navigating racial trauma, living with disabilities, or facing the unique challenges of caregiving. Cordell’s therapeutic insights are often informed by his prior successful career in law enforcement, the federal government, and executive leadership, providing a unique understanding of high-pressure environments, organizational dynamics, and the intersection of personal and professional life.

Cordell earned his undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Georgia and his Master of Education degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Montevallo. Clients often describe him as warm, collaborative, and insightful, and he believes in meeting people where they are to help them move forward with intention on their journey. Cordell has been at Exodus since May 2025.

Outside of therapy, Cordell is a devoted husband and father. He enjoys running, watching college sports, and the occasional premium cigar, usually while on a not-so-successful quest to find a golf ball that didn’t quite go where he intended.
